Millions of customers rely on our domains and web hosting to get their ideas online
If you are registering your domain for your business, the most logical domain name would be the name of your business (e.g. Nike.com). Otherwise, here are some tips on how to choose a good domain name:
1. Keep it short. No one wants to type, “thebestwebsiteintheuniverse.com”. But hey, it’s up to you! (Really, no one is going to stop you).
2. Don’t use numbers or hyphens. Unless they are part of your company or brand name (e.g. News24.com), it is always best to avoid splitting up your domain name with hyphens or adding random numbers to the end.
3. Choose an appropriate domain extension. You can’t beat a good .co.za, but if you plan on running an online store, you can also consider using .store, .shop, or similar. If you only operate in certain cities, you might consider a hyperlocal extension such as .joburg or .capetown.
However, if the domain is registered but not being used (i.e. ‘parked’), you can try offering to buy it from the current registrant by contacting them via our WHOIS Lookup tool.
Keep in mind that a domain name that is unavailable for one domain extension may still be available on any number of other domain extensions.
No. Once you have registered a domain name, the name as it is remains in your possession for the duration of however many years you registered it for. This makes it doubly important to check that you have spelt the domain name correctly.
No. You can register and reserve a domain name at intrawit without having to buy a web hosting plan. Until you’re ready to add web hosting, build your site, and launch it online, we can keep your domain ‘parked’. Note that you get one free .co.za domain when you sign up for any of our web hosting plans.
Domains can be transferred between different domain registrars through a special authorisation process designed to prevent accidental transfers and domain theft. To confirm that you want to move your existing domain at another registrar to intrawit, an authorisation code will be sent to the email address that was originally used to register that domain. Under normal circumstances, once you have confirmed your intention, and rightful authority, to transfer the domain via the authorisation code mechanism, the transfer will take place within a few days.
